9 Creative DIY Tech Projects to Personalize Your Space

We’re slowly moving into an age were DIY projects are dominating most modern spaces. It’s a great way to save money while learning some practical skills in the process. If you’re even a little bit tech-savvy, these creative DIY projects will enhance your living space without breaking your budget.
Smart Lamp

Many homes have old lamps that could be restored to pristine condition with some paint (the color choice is all yours) or wood varnish if you prefer that rustic design. Once the lamp and shade are looking new again, buy a smart bulb from the store. Some brands could be as cheap as $10. A smart bulb can be voice-activated or controlled on your phone, and some even have RGB LEDs, which let them turn to any color for ambiance!
Phone Charging Dock

Phone charging docks can be expensive, especially for established brands. But why not make your own dock? All you need are the materials to build around the charging cable. A fun example for kids is a charging dock built out of Legos. For adults, creativity is key, and with some craft supplies, you could make a charging dock that will suit any aesthetic.
Origami Lighting

Origami is an excellent hobby that any person with any paper folding skill can take part in. The pastel colors of many papers used in origami look amazing when incorporated into your lighting. LED strips don’t emit much heat, so they should be safe for stringing up your pieces. Just in case, ensure no bulbs are in direct contact with the paper.
Light Up Shoes

We’re not done with the LED lighting just yet. Another DIY project that’s great for teens is installing LEDs into your shoes. It’s surprisingly simple, and many LED strips already come with a battery pack and are waterproof, so the installation is the hardest part. This works better with old shoes that you don’t mind tampering with.
Tablet Holder

Tablet and phone holders are another tech accessory that’s needlessly expensive. Why not just make it your own? If you’re good with woodworking, you could build the frame out of plywood. However, don’t worry if you aren’t an aspiring carpenter, as old cardboard boxes can be cut into shapes with scissors. Make sure that you have enough layers of cardboard to keep the tablet or phone up before gluing the sheets together. Once that’s done, you can decorate the holder with glitter, pens, and all sorts of other creative items.
Mood Lighting

Mood lighting is an inexpensive way of creating ambiance in a room for any occasion. Many modern LED strips can be bought with voice activation or apps just like smart bulbs. The installation normally involved double sided tape or a similar adhesive. You could backlight your TV, shelves, or even ceiling with these LEDs.
Smart Button

Smart bulbs and smart LEDs have dominated the conversation, but what about a humble smart button? One can be bough and installed wherever you need it. The button can be wirelessly configured to a variety of devices. It can be used to turn off lights or interact with any smart devices.
Tablet Recipe Book

Traditional recipe books take up a lot of space and are a hassle to flip through. Thankfully, a tablet can be configured for any recipe on the internet, and if you build a stand for it in the kitchen, it’ll stay on point. Consider building a holder similar to the one mentioned on the list beforehand, with the caveat of ensuring no cables are in the range of getting wet.
Bluetooth Speakers

Bluetooth speakers are normally a pretty penny, but for those that can afford and install a small Bluetooth adapter, any old speaker with an audio input can be converted to Bluetooth. Even old high end hi-fi systems can now have wireless compatibility to any Bluetooth device.
